Software Development Manager - Advertising

Books advertising team s mandate is to launch and accelerate the advertising business in Books categories that require a differentiated customer and advertiser experience. We own end-to-end the advertising experience including placements, creative, ad serving, advertiser experience, and marketing. We are investing in a deep technical team to optimize the book advertiser experience including advertiser registration, targeting and recommendation, reporting and public API. We are looking for entrepreneurial, innovative people who thrive on solving tough problems to lead a technical team. The successful candidate will build upon core program management successes and develop breadth across a range of problem domains. As a Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for driving the Advertiser Experience (AX) engineering team to define, build and ship solutions that improve book advertisers experiences. You will play a pivotal role in managing projects at all stages: inception, design, development, deployment, and subsequent improvements. You will tackle challenging problems and coordinate high profile projects across multiple teams to ensure our goals are met. You will interface across product, engineering, and applied science teams within Performance Advertising and across teams such as Amazon Search and Economics to deliver state-of-the-art solutions. In this role, you will: Lead a focused technical team with direct impact on advertiser success Dive deep into performance and operational data and work closely with product, business, and engineering teams to develop a compelling vision and roadmap. Present technical plans to senior executives and key stakeholders and evangelize that technical vision within Amazon. Hire, develop and retain top tier technical talent. Drive efficient execution of new initiatives, including collaboration with advertising and partner teams. Manage an engineering team responsible for critical high-availability infrastructure and micro-services supporting book advertisers specific features. Collaborate with scientists to launch best-in-class recommendation models in production.
Basic qualifications 7+ years of relevant engineering experience 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers Experience in partnering with product and program management teams Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline. Experience with at least one modern programming language such as C, C++, C#, Java. Object Oriented Design and familiarity with application and database programming under UNIX/Linux. Experience with Agile (SCRUM, RUP, XP), OO modeling, web services, UNIX, middleware, database, and data mining systems Experience mentoring and training the engineering community on complex technical issue.
Preferred qualification Master's degree in a computer science related field Online display advertising industry experience Experience with front end UI technologies like Node, ReactJS, Angular. Experience collaborating with UX and product teams to build experiences.
