Senior Software Development Manager, Direct Tax Technology

Tax technology provides an opportunity to innovate, design and build new platforms and services on AWS.Amazon's seeks an innovative, capable, and motivated individual to be a Senior Software Development Manager (SrSDM) on the Direct Tax Technology team, based in Seattle. The role is responsible for ensuring the tax professionals of Amazon's Global Tax Reporting and Compliance organization (R&C) are supported in their mission with world-class technology and processes built on AWS. The impact of this role is evidenced by the ability to innovate robust and scalable capabilities that empower our customers and the organization to continue to meet the unique challenges of Amazon. As a Senior Software Development Manager, you will lead and build a team of world-class software engineers. You and your team will drive product/platform development and partner with other Amazon teams and businesses to deliver AWS based systems and services. Amazon SrSDM's possess the ability to deliver results, think big, make sound decisions and build highly-scalable/performant systems for the long term. This role is expected to lead by example to earn the trust of your team and customers.

Primary Responsibilities

* Invest in building and growing a strong engineering team, from leaders to new hires, ensuring the right mix of talent, skills, and experience.
* Build the technical vision for the team, spanning architecture, components, dependencies, engineering process, and technology selection.
* Act as a leader on the team, proposing and planning key initiatives, owning critical goals, and aligning resources.
* Deliver results through product feature launches and technical improvements that move the needle for customers and business results.
* Maintain a high-standards technical operations culture, focused on building self-healing systems, solving problems quickly, extracting learnings, and continuously improving.
* Span the full stack but be highly comfortable and motivated to work on customer facing engagements.
* Partner with peers and leaders across teams to deliver on cross-team initiatives.
* Work with product managers, technical program managers, UX designers, and quality assurance leaders to raise the bar on product/market fit and technical quality.
* Be a trusted advisor to customers and engage on projects with high degrees of complexity and business criticality.
* Manage requirements, design, build and rollout solutions.
* Lead initiatives with multiple stakeholders and manage the complexity of competing needs and timelines.
* Understand the solutions we have today, applying them where appropriate and inventing new capabilities when needed.
* Listen to customers across the organization and expand our tool-set to the benefit of all, avoiding point solutions.
* Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
* 5+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
* 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
* 5+ years of experience of design, architecture and applied problem-solving
* Excellent Coding Skills in: C#; Python; or Angular 2+ Web Development
* Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
* Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
* Experience delivering products in a complex and fast-paced environment using agile process and experimentation
* Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to determine the technical requirements to enable feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
* Experience working in AWS based solutions
* Experience with SQL, VBA, TypeScript or Machine Learning
* Excellent Data Analysis skills
* A deep understanding of software development lifecycle, and a track record of delivering production quality software on time
* Experience in tax and/or financial systems and processing
* Direct tax modeling and process development experience
* AWS Certified and/or other professional certification
* Dual major or advanced degrees (Accounting, Tax, MBA, or STEM)
