Application Security Engineer

Security Journey is starting a security culture revolution, one customer at a time, and we need help.

Security Journey is looking for a full-time Application Security Engineer to join our startup team. In this role, you will help us build content for our innovative security experiment platform. Our platform provides broken, insecure pieces of code, and our users fix these examples as a learning experience.

You will be responsible for this piece of our platform, developing security experiments for Java, C#, C/C++, Java
Script, Python, Go, Ruby, and R. You will also help us with our core mission of building security learning content and star in security education videos. Security Journey was founded by Chris Romeo, a security expert who built one of the worlds most extensive application security training programs (at a Fortune 50 company). He launched Security Journey to respond to the rapidly growing demand from clients of all sizes for application security education.

We specialize in creating and delivering application security education using security belt programs. We guide our clients many in tech, healthcare, and finance to squashing vulnerabilities before they impact customers.

Our cloud-based platform delivers cybersecurity education through an ever-growing library of content and provides hands-on, immersive security experiments. We measure student and organizational growth and reward student achievements, all to transform an enterprises security culture.

We promote security awareness organization-wide with learning that is engaging, motivating, and fun. In short, we provide security training that developers, testers, and managers want to consume.

To thrive in this position, youll need a background in security and development, with the ability to translate your knowledge and experience into security experiments and content modules. Youll build, test, and deploy security experiments, creating content for topics that you are not an expert in, and youll be required to research, outline, and generate content.

The ideal candidate possesses a proven track record of development and learning, strong communication skills, self-driven work habits, a high level of creativity, and curiosity.

Your primary tasks will include:

Building new security experiments in various languages, using coding flaws, bugs, and vulnerabilities as examples.
Testing and debugging existing security experiments.
Designing new platform features in support of our security experiment mission.
Breaking down experiments into written learning instruction for the platform.
Researching and outlining security learning topics and allocating them into a modular system.
Developing security education content across multiple disciplines.
Participating in security education videos.



Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering, or equivalent experience
2+ years experience in security and software development

Technical Skills:

Development knowledge and experience with one or more languages/frameworks:
Java, C#/.NET, C/C++, Python, and Golang
ASP.NET, RoR, Java
Script, Node JS, React, Angular, REST API, and Microservices
Knowledge of how to perform a threat modeling process.
Usage of SAST, DAST, and SCA tool suites.

Other Skills:

Undertaking and completing tasks independently, meeting schedules & delivery timelines, and moving swiftly from concepts and theory to action.
