Software Engineer - TORONTO OR STAMFORD

Software Engineer
- TORONTO OR STAMFORD

We are seeking a technically strong and solution-oriented Software Engineer to join the IT force in our Group IT Department in order to strengthen the team responsible for a wide variety of solutions, supporting the reinsurance activities in the Life & Health unit
- This role will be based in either Toronto or Stamford.

In this role you will be responsible for the development of new applications as well as application changes, from design and development to testing, and last but not least for the support. This position includes not only software development, but also analysis of the requirements and specification design. In more detail your area of duties will be:

  • Software Design and Development:
  • In cooperation with the Business Experts:
  • Studying information needs, system flows, data usage and work processes
  • Investigating problem areas
  • Producing or supporting the creation of required artefacts (User stories, screen design, business rules etc.)
  • Creation or contributing to release and sprint planning
  • Developing software solutions
  • Solution Testing, Installation and Support:
  • Defining and executing unit and regression tests, as well as user support during acceptance tests
  • Preparing the installation of the solutions
  • Producing the required documentation
  • Providing second level support
  • Operations Improvements:
  • Conducting systems analysis and recommending changes

About you

  • A university degree or equivalent in Computer Science
  • At least 4 years experience in designing and developing software solutions
  • Proficiency in .NET programming (C#), full stack web development (Angular, TypeScript, Bootstrap, Web Services, WebAPI etc.), Entity framework, relational databases (MS SQL, T-SQL), data modeling etc.
  • Version control (Azure DevOps with GIT, GitLab)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experienced in agile software development methodology
  • Excellent communication and language skills in English (proficient verbal and in writing), as you will interact with the IT and the Business community on a daily basis
  • High motivation and capable of working in a challenging international environment in across location teams
  • Ability to work effectively both within a team and also independently
  • Driven towards finding solutions and being responsive
  • Experience in the insurance or reinsurance business is a plus
