Your Opportunity

Our passion here at Schwab is to transform people s lives by changing the way the world invests. This platform is responsible for all client and advisor communications, including real-time and batch alerts, notifications, and digital messages. This messaging platform includes communicating via email, text messaging, push notifications, internal message center, and other real-time and batch alerts and notifications that are critical for clients, advisors, and reps. This platform is staged to undergo a significant platform upgrade and cloud modernization, and we are searching for an experienced technology leader who will thrive in leading this complex cloud modernization program.

What you are good at

As a Principal and Solutions Architect you will report to the Managing Director for Digital Messaging. As a highly influential individual contributor, you will take ownership and lead the architecture vision and design implementation for both the current platform and the modernized, cloud-based platform. You ll lead the technology transformation; provide architectural direction and decision making; and design and implement a modern, end-to-end messaging platform that is highly scalable and resilient.

You will play a key role in the following areas:

Strategic Architectural Guidance and Influence:

Collaborate with Schwab s Enterprise Architectural standards team and other technology architects in determining the architecture and design of the new Digital Messaging platform, as well as the migration and scaling plans to complete the successful transition to a cloud-based platform.

Take ownership of working with vendors and business partners; understand their vision and roadmaps; and create, publish, present, and periodically update the technical strategy and associated documentation and standards for Digital Messaging.

Tactical Implementation of Modernization Architecture and Design:

Take ownership and be a hands-on technical architect who will lead the technology team from the front and inspire thought leadership in the team. Ensure the migration to a new cloud-based solution achieves the needed objectives and timelines.

Using Servant-Leadership practices; mentor, train and influence a team of aspiring, experienced and hardworking developers to design and execute with a distributed mentality and transform the team architecturally as the legacy platforms modernize technically.

You will be comfortable looking at code to understand existing flows, rules, and design. You will have freedom to explore, prototype, or even implement solutions that help drives strategic decision making.

Process Leadership:

Define, communicate and implement design/coding standards for distributed services, cloud and SaaS vendor solutions, technical governance and design review.

Influence and define processes to enable agile transformation within organization. These include, but are not limited to: Influence Test Driven (TDD) and Behavior Driven development (BDD) practices and Quality Engineering.
