Job Summary The Principal Software Engineer's role is to design, develop, assess and troubleshoot software applications. This includes configuring, developing and documenting software specifications throughout the project life cycle. The incumbent will have technical impact and direction to reach beyond assigned Agile Team.
ResponsibilitiesSupport and enhance the nation's largest network for clinical exchange -
- high volume, data intensive applications processing over 5 million transactions a day, storing several Terabytes of data and serving hundreds of thousands of customers. Design, implement and productize the next generation of Health
Care connectivity. Help Surescripts expand beyond e-prescribing and medication benefits into other areas of connected Health
Care. Build tools that monitor our systems, support our critical applications and manage our diverse customer base. Collaborate with analysts, architects, database engineers, and other software engineers in conceptualizing, initiating and developing new software programs and applications. Direct research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts. Interact regularly with managers, clients, vendors, and agencies to field queries and questions and solve challenging problems. Research, document, and implement program requirements and specifications. Run and monitor performance tests on new and existing software for the purpose of correcting mistakes, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging. Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of application development best practices. Determine, develop and maintain user manuals and guidelines, and design artifacts as determined for the project or software implementation. Mentor and provide guidance to other members of the software engineering staff. Direct other engineers in planning, prioritizing and executing assigned tasks within deadlines. Design, implement and support software libraries to be used across engineering teams. Research and recommend new technologies to ensure quality and productivity. Improve team efficiency by creating andor using tools to automate as many tasks as is reasonable. Collaborate with operations staff to improve and automate the software deploymentdelivery process. Improve team efficiency by providing input to the product development process. Lead risk assessment and mitigation activities.
