Full-Stack Software Engineer, Space Operations CS-15

Boulder, CO or San Francisco, CA

Description

Capella is at the forefront of making vital information about our world accessible in a timely manner. We're leveraging proven technologies and building new capabilities to create a constellation of SAR satellites that can collect information about any spot on the planet within an hour. At Capella, you'll work in a collaborative team environment alongside smart people committed to space mission success. No prior space experience is needed-we're looking for individuals who are excited about tackling seemingly impossible challenges, learning new skills and concepts, and helping each other learn and grow. Our mission is to understand the whole world and help everyone in it, regardless of race, creed, or any other distinction. We believe in a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we encourage all people to join our team and bring their unique perspective to help make us stronger. We value diversity at Capella and welcome applications from those who are traditionally underrepresented in tech. If you like the sound of this position, but are not sure if you are the perfect fit, please still apply!
Role: The spacecraft operations team is responsible for building, maintaining, and improving the software, infrastructure, and systems that run Capella spacecraft. We prepare for satellite launches, maintain spacecraft on-orbit, and develop new capabilities to improve how customers can collect and access Earth imagery. The team's focus is on software and system engineering with the goal of developing a fully-autonomous, rapid-response spacecraft operations system. All members of the team at all levels are expected to participate in the on-call rotation that responds to anomalies so that we provide reliable performance our customers can depend on. We seek to push boundaries and solve challenging problems where there aren't known answers. Learning to be comfortable with uncertainty and taking the initiative are key skills for success. The team values and always strives to maintain a collaborative and supportive environment where supporting each other, teaching, and learning are our core principles-we tackle our challenges together. As a Full-Stack Software Engineer you will lead the design, implementation, testing, and support of our mission control software applications. You're an independent problem-solver who seeks out ways to empower our team to better understand, operate, and interact the software, hardware, and systems that run the Capella constellation. As part of the space operations team, you will be interacting on a daily basis with other software engineers, spacecraft operators, satellite engineers, and product engineers to develop and run a highly autonomous spacecraft operations system. The position is available in San Francisco or Boulder. Desired Qualifications (Not All Are Expected):
* Professional experience building applications with React, Vue, Angular or similar frontend frameworks/libraries
* Experience programming Desktop GUI applications in Python (PyQt)
* Experience working with REST APIs, GraphQL, and/or WebSockets
* Empathetic and inquisitive approach to UX and UI design
* Ability to build visualizations and tools that make complex information and systems approachable
* Knowledge of spacecraft, robotics, autonomous or embedded systems
* Good communications skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and enjoyment of learning from and teaching other team new skills.
* This position requires special access to conduct the work and requires the selected candidate to be a US Citizen or Green Card holder.
