Expedia is looking for a VAT Director to join Expedia’s VAT team focused on supporting Expedia’s Global Travel Business. Expedia’s Global Travel business brings together millions of travelers with millions of suppliers across various spectrums (i.e., lodging, air, car, leisure, etc.). The VAT Director will be key player on the Global VAT team. This position is located in Seattle, Washington. The successful candidate will be able to clearly articulate his/her findings to executives through written and verbal communication.  Ideal Candidate will develop a deep understanding of global business operations, financial results, and intercompany relationships and will work closely with the Finance, Accounting and financial systems and technology teams on the implementation of automated and scalable VAT processes and systems solutions for Expedia’s ecommerce travel platform. The VAT Director will be based in Seattle, Washington and will be part of a growing team of 15 VAT professionals worldwide. What you'll do: Partnering and providing VAT advice and operational implications to Expedia’s global travel business executive leaders, and working cross functionally with finance, treasury, legal teams, and external advisers on significant business and VAT impacts that are relevant to this executive group. Interpret and advise important digital economy VAT legislative and policy proposals. Assist the public policy and business teams in defining and implementing appropriate strategies and solutions in response to new digital economy VAT rules. Assist in implementation of automated and scalable VAT processes and systems to both support Expedia’s rapid international growth economy around the world and to allow the business to react quickly to new and evolving digital economy VAT legislation and policy proposal. Research and document Expedia’s VAT technical positions relating to Expedia’s global travel business and operations and identify and implement required process, VA
T controllership and compliance changes and improvements. Review intercompany and third-party contracts and make recommendations on tax clauses to agreements
Coordinate with International Direct Tax and Transfer Pricing teams with respect to the VAT implications of potential acquisitions, investments and business expansions and restructurings. Research and document other international indirect taxes impacting Expedia’s global travel business portfolio such as local lodging and tourism taxes, stamp taxes and transfer taxes. Manage and consult with external tax advisors with respect to the potential impact of changes to Expedia’s business operations and the impact of new tax legislation, tax court decisions and administrative rulings and identify impacts to Expedia’s existing VAT processes and systems arising from these changes. Manage and direct VAT aspects of tax audits Who you are: A passion for travel and ecommerce technology platforms.12+ years of experience including public accounting or law firm experience.  Industry experience in the technology or travel sector is preferred.   Global VAT/GST experience preferred with specific emphasis on Asia Pacific. Experience with implementing automated VAT business processes and controls would be very desirable. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and quickly adapt to change

As an Engineering Manager, within the Conversation Platform Technology team, you will provide leadership and mentorship to a team dedicated to driving technology innovation. You will be enabling groups across the company to build outstanding Virtual Agent experiences worldwide in Expedia Group mobile apps, web sites, social channels, and voice channels!
We support hundreds of millions of conversations a year across a global brand portfolio and partnership programs. Our team is building out the platform's front-end capabilities (in mobile apps and web sites) that power Expedia Group's Virtual Agents to address customer needs in an efficient manner without needing human intervention. In this role, with your experience along with mentorship and inspiring others, you and your team will build native mobile and web front-end libraries that could be used to enable travelers to enjoy their magnificent trip!
Who you are:7+ years software development experience in an enterprise level engineering environment3+ years hands-on front-end experience with projects in native mobile (iOS, Android or both) and/or Web (React, Vue or Angular) technologies
Solid understanding of Javascript, Nodejs and Java, as well as cloud environments like AWS or Azure
Expertise in agile software development methodologies and using them efficiently within teams
Passion in delivering delightful user experience, with insights into best practices and methodologies
Good communication and interpersonal skills
- able to translate between technical and business group, bring forward a vision or opinion
Understanding of trade-offs of architectural patterns and comfort in recommending approaches and associated technology choices
What you'll do: Guide and mentor the team in local and remote locations to seamlessly deliver on lofty goals with speed and quality
Promote development of maintainable and thoroughly tested code. Ensure the team is following state of the art engineering methodologiesBe willing and able to get down to the details at the code level to review as well as to do hands-on coding. Provide ongoing, real-time feedback to engineers on your team to promote their growth. Partner with others to collect feedback and lead team progress toward goals
Communicate clearly to both partners and engineers to remove ambiguity from larger projects. Provide high level engineering estimates and prioritization
Collaborate with Product Managers and User Experience Designers to drive engineering towards near-term and longer-term targets
