Application Engineer

POSITION

TITLE: Application Engineer DEPARTMENT: Information Systems REPORTS TO: Manager, Application Development & Process Improvement SALARY GRADE/HIRING RANGE: 12/$51,708 - $54,750 FLSA DESIGNATION: Exempt SUMMARY OF THE

POSITION

Provides systems analysis, design, programming, testing, documentation and support for internally developed applications and web applications, as well as database management, end-user support, and system administration services to the university. Position does not provide direct supervision over others but may lead small or less complex projects.
OPPORTUNITIES OF THE

POSITION

Application Design and Development Work closely with the development team, campus constituents, and supervisor to define project needs, identify solutions, and establish/maintain project development cycles. Assist with development, implementation, and maintenance of secure administrative interfaces and web-based applications; assist with development on major projects, working closely with lead developer; and assist with efforts to move various workloads to the cloud. Assist in enforcing guidelines, policies, procedures and practices related to the development and maintenance of custom applications, data sources, and development environments. Apply new technologies the development team deems beneficial within the Whitworth environment; and follow usage of best practices in the areas of programming and user interface design. Application and System Support Support legacy applications built using VB and works to refactor these applications to newer technology. Support applications built on a variety of platforms as needs/issues arise; support various third-party systems; and assist with necessary efforts to troubleshoot, fix and update system and application problems. User Support and Needs Analysis Design applications to facilitate business process continuous improvements and efficiencies. Consult with and provide training of users on system capabilities and usage of various applications and ensures end-user satisfaction of delivered solutions. Work with process owners to identify appropriate training opportunities, develop training materials and support documentation for use by end users, and train end users in the use of custom applications. Application Testing Assist with application testing, including development of test scenarios, and completes thorough testing on all applications prior to moving solutions into a production environment. Server Management/System Integration/IS Collaboration Work closely with information systems analysts to develop resources which interface with Whitworth's ERP, data warehouse, and MS Share.
Point environments. Work with the ERP team to design, implement, customize, and configure ERP APIs for system integrations. Assist with maintenance of application development environments to ensure data integrity, security, performance, and compatibility; and assist with licensing management and major updates. Create and manage SQL databases and MS Windows security groups and creates scripts to automate a variety of dynamic processes. Other Duties as Assigned

PREFERRED JOBKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of and experience in development with Microsoft Visual Studio, Object-oriented programming and C#, web technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, ASP.NET MVC and/or a JavaScript framework such as React, Angular or Vue. Knowledge of source control systems such as Git Experience in no/low-code development platforms like K2 Knowledge of Windows Server system administration:

Education

Two-year degree with a technical focus (experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of education)

Experience
